This year, the LiSyM Cancer network was part of Explore Science in Mannheim, which took place from June 25 to 29, 2025 at Herzogenriedpark Mannheim. This year's theme was “Zukunft MINT”, highlighting the opportunities that the STEM field represents for our society.

The event attracted around 25,000 visitors over five days and enabled a direct exchange with a wide audience, including many primary school classes and young families.

Our stand showed the special importance of the liver in the human body and the effects of liver diseases. A centerpiece was our fluorescence microscope, which gave visitors the opportunity to examine liver samples themselves. Under the guidance of researchers from our network, participants were able to recognize differences between healthy and cancerous cells. This provided special insight to our research.

In addition, our craft station offered an opportunity to deepen knowledge. Visitors were able to draw the location of the liver on a template using a stamp. The important functions of the liver in the body, such as detoxification and energy storage, were explained. The response to our stand was great and the many questions showed how broad the interest in medical topics was among visitors. Information on preventive measures to improve liver health was frequently mentioned.

Our participation in "Explore Science Mannheim" 2025 was an experience that gave us the opportunity to show our research to a broad public and promote exchange between science and society.
